The
Housing Authority has 1,522 units of low rent public housing which includes
230 elderly units. The Housing Authority manages 1,137 units of Section
8. MHA also manages the following nonprofits: Ouachita Grand Plaza with
91 units of 202 housing for the elderly, Passman Plaza with 80 units
of 202 housing for the elderly, and Claiborne Creek with 72 units of
tax credit housing for the elderly in Phase I, with an additional 60
units in Phase II. These nonprofits were developed and are operated
in cooperation with the Ouachita Council on Aging. 
MHA has set a standard of excellence which makes it a model housing
agency by national standards. It has consistently been awarded a "High
Performer" award by the Department of Housing and Urban Development
from the implementation of the award in 1992 until present. It also
just recently won the Government Finance Officers' Association Certficate
of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting in September 1999.
